Dabo Swinney didn’t hold back when responding to criticism from a Clemson fan on his weekly radio show on Monday night.

The fan, identified as Tyler from Spartanburg, called in and criticized the way Swinney has operated Clemson’s program. Swinney took exception to Tyler’s comments and expressed his frustrations in a lengthy answer.

“You can have all your opinions you want. I don’t know how old you are, don’t care,” Swinney said. “We won 11 games last year and you’re part of the problem.”

It’s been a tenuous relationship this year between Swinney and Clemson fans. Earlier this season, Swinney suggested Clemson might need to lose a few games in order to lighten “the bandwagon” after more than a decade of success.

Swinney, who has won 2 National Championships and numerous ACC titles, said he stands on the results that he has produced during his time as Clemson’s head coach.

“15 years later I’m still here and I’d say the results are what they are and I stand on them,” Swinney said. “You don’t ever have to call back.

“You ain’t gonna talk to me like I’m 12 years old. You be frickin’ kidding me.”

Swinney also took exception to Tyler’s criticism over his salary, which is approximately $11 million annually.

“I started at the lowest paid business in this frickin’ business and I’m not gonna let some smart ass kid get on this phone and create this stuff,” Swinney said.

Swinney’s first coaching job was as a graduate assistant at Alabama from 1993-95. By 1996, he was a position coach for the Crimson Tide. He then worked as an assistant until being named as Clemson’s permanent head coach ahead of the 2009 season.
