One of the nation’s top defensive back prospects is getting closer to making his decision.

On Sunday evening, four-star Monroeville, Pa., native Derrick Davis Jr. announced he’s narrowed his options down to just seven programs. The 6-foot-1, 194-pound Gateway High School standout is rated as the No. 2 safety prospect in the nation for the 2021 recruiting cycle by 247Sports Composite Rankings and the No. 52 overall recruit nationally.

“First, I would like to thank all of the schools that have recruited me and have taken the time to reach out to me over the past 3 years,” Davis posted. “I am extremely blessed and humble to announce my top seven schools!!!”

His list includes two programs from the Southeastern Conference as Georgia and LSU made the cut, along with Penn State, Ohio State, Clemson, USC and Pitt.

When his high school career is complete, Davis is scheduled to compete in the 2021 Under Armour All-American Game.

Based on his junior season highlight reel, the Pennsylvania native has all the tools you want in a safety — he’s capable of making big plays defending the pass, the run and he never gives up on a play. No doubt, whichever program lands Davis will be getting an elite prospect, that’s for sure.
