ESPN Playoff Predictor releases CFP, National Championship odds for 9 SEC teams

ESPN has just released its initial Playoff Predictor odds for the upcoming college football season and based these numbers, the Southeastern Conference has four teams with a realistic shot to win it all in 2019.

In addition to the obvious candidates — Alabama, Georgia, LSU and Florida — ESPN has listed the longshot odds for five other league teams looking ahead to the 2019 season. Not listed below is Clemson, which has an 83 percent chance of making the next College Football Playoff and a 36 percent chance of repeating as national champions, according to ESPN’s Playoff Predictor.

To come up with these numbers, ESPN uses its Football Power Index figures and factors in the schedule for each program for the upcoming season. So for example, Clemson’s overall team strength combined with the nation’s 56th ranked schedule results in higher odds that the Tigers will make the next College Football Playoff.

Here are the nine SEC teams and the current odds listed in ESPN’s debut 2019 Playoff Predictor:
