Kliff Kingsbury’s time on the open market apparently didn’t last very long.

The former Texas Tech quarterback returned to Lubbock in 2013 to take over the Red Raiders program and found mixed results during his head coaching tenure. While the offense was typically outstanding on the field, the team struggled to a 35-40 overall record, 19-35 in conference play, and Kingsbury was let go after six seasons on the job.

Now, according to Scott Schrader of Trojan Insider, Kingsbury will have an opportunity to redeem himself by taking over the offensive coordinator role at USC working under Clay Helton. Trojan Insider notes a source “close to the USC football program” informed them of the hire.

While things may not have exactly worked out for Kingsbury as a head coach, he quickly became one of the hottest available names on the market after being let go by Texas Tech. Kingsbury’s name has been attached to many NFL assistant roles following the newfound success of the Air Raid offense in the NFL.

Under Kingsbury’s coaching, players such as Patrick Mahomes, Baker Mayfield, Case Keenum, Davis Webb and Johnny Manziel have all made it to the game’s highest level. He briefly played for the New England Patriots after making it to the NFL, himself. Prior to landing the head coaching job at Texas Tech, Kingsbury served as an assistant at Texas A&M and Houston.

If he is indeed taking over at USC, he’ll have a wealth of talent to work with next season as the Trojans feature plenty of skill talent on the offensive side of the ball and at quarterback.
