The college football world has been rocked by Wednesday’s bombshell report that Texas and Oklahoma have reached out to the SEC about joining the conference. Oklahoma State predictably has some strong feelings on the prospect of the Longhorns and Sooners leaving the Big 12.

OSU issued a strong statement to media outlets on Wednesday afternoon:

“We have heard unconfirmed reports that OU and UT approached Southeastern Conference officials about joining the SEC. We are gathering information and will monitor closely. If true, we would be gravely disappointed. While we place a premium on history, loyalty and trust, be assured, we will aggressively defend and advance what is best for Oklahoma State and our strong athletic program, which continues to excel in the Big 12 and nationally.”

Statements from Oklahoma and Texas in response to the report were widely interpreted as being far from firm denials. We’ll see if other Big 12 programs speak out as the Oklahoma and Texas talk continues to dominate the college football conversation.
