Following his incredibly successful career in the early 1990s as Florida’s quarterback, no way Shane Matthews’ son suits up for Georgia, right? According to the Twitter account for Matthews, his son Luke has already donned the Red and Black at least once during his recruitment.

A rising junior quarterback out of Gainesville High School, Luke Matthews threw for 1,391 yards and 12 touchdowns during his sophomore season last year. The 5-foot-10, 160-pound prospects recently took a recruiting visit to Athens following a trip to Clemson and a camp visit with Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh. While on the trip to Athens, the younger Matthews suited up in a uniform all too familiar to his father.

Judging by Shane’s response to this photo, the elder Matthews wasn’t a huge fan of the look:

Shane Matthews was Steve Spurrier’s first quarterback in Gainesville and helped lead Florida to the SEC Championship in 1991. During his playing career, Matthews was named SEC Player of the Year in 1990 and 1991 and earned First Team All-American status in 1992. He threw for 9,287 yards and 74 touchdowns during his three-year college career before heading to the NFL where he played for the Bears, Redskins, and Bills.

Luke Matthews does not currently have a recruiting profile on 247Sports but he could be a name to watch in the 2019 recruiting cycle. Especially if he winds up playing at an SEC school outside of Gainesville.
