Every year, players have magical moments or breakout seasons and become stars in the SEC.

This season, players such as Carlton Davis and Calvin Ridley solidified their stardom on the collegiate level. With one game left in the SEC’s season, and as we start to take an early look at 2016, who are the next players who will take the next step and become bonafide stars in the conference?

Here’s a look at five potential candidates:

DARKHORSE SEC STARS IN 2016

Jeremy Sprinkle, Arkansas: Despite playing behind arguably the best tight end in the country in Hunter Henry, Sprinkle showed why Razorbacks will be in good shape at the position. With six touchdown catches in 2015, the 6-foot-6, 255-pound junior doubled Henry’s output in that department while playing two fewer games and finished with 27 receptions for 389 yards. Sprinkle was most impressive in Arkansas’ 45-23 victory over Kansas State in the Liberty Bowl, when he caught four passes for a season-high 81 yards and a TD. There’s no doubt the Razorbacks will be looking to pour it on against opposing defenses with Sprinkle being a focal point on offense.

Davon Godchaux, LSU: The defensive tackle’s total tackles actually decreased from 42 to 41 in 2015. But check out these jumps: Godchaux increased his tackles for loss from 1.5 to 9. And after failing to record a sack as a freshman, Godchaux had six in 2015. He capped the season with an eye-opening performance in LSU’s 56-27 victory over Texas Tech in the Texas Bowl, when he finished with three tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble. The 6-foot-4, 293-pounder is certainly a player new defensive coordinator Dave Aranda can build around.

Bo Scarbrough, Alabam: Derrick Henry hasn’t announced his plans for the NFL yet, but he seems to be on his way to the pros. Should Henry go, Scarbrough has a good shot to become Alabama’s primary running back. He more than likely will have to beat out fellow rising sophomore Damien Harris for the job, but the 6-foot-2 240-pounder already looks the part, even resembling Henry physically. Scarbrough has had only 18 carries this season, but his 5.78 yards per attempt is an indication that the ACL he tore in April has healed.

Terry Godwin, Georgia: Did you happen to catch Godwin’s performance in Georgia’s 24-17 victory over Penn State in the TaxSlayer Bowl? Not only did the freshman catch four passes for 34 yards and a score, but he also threw a 44-yard touchdown pass that gave the Bulldogs a 14-point lead. With Malcolm Mitchell likely bound for the NFL, Godwin should be Georgia’s go-to-guy next season, giving incoming QB Jacob Eason an instant target.

Josh Malone, Tennessee: With senior Von Pearson wrapping up his career, Malone appears poised to seize the Volunteers’ No. 1 receiver spot. Teammate Josh Smith might have something to say about that, but Malone did have a solid sophomore season with 31 catches for 405 yards and two touchdowns. He didn’t have a big game in the Outback Bowl – he had just two receptions for 17 yards – but Tennessee didn’t need one. The Volunteers never trailed in a 45-6 rout.
