The SEC continued its strong showing in the early portion of the season with a rousing slate of Week 2 games, including Mississippi State’s dominant win at Kansas State and Kentucky’s streak-snapping upset of Florida.

Both winning teams placed two players on the league’s Players of the Week list released Monday.

OFFENSE

Kylin Hill, RB, Mississippi State

The sophomore fueled No. 16 Mississippi State’s 31-10 win at Kansas State with 211 yards and two touchdowns on just 17 carries. Hill, who produced just the ninth 200-yard rushing game in program history, also added a receiving score to bring his SEC-leading touchdown total to five.

DEFENSE

Josh Allen, LB, Kentucky

Allen compiled five tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, a sack and a forced fumble as the Wildcats ended their 31-game losing streak against then-No. 25 Florida. His sack and forced fumble came on the game’s final play, which Kentucky returned for a touchdown to seal its 27-16 victory in the Swamp.

SPECIAL TEAMS

Rodrigo Blankenship, PK, Georgia

The Bulldogs kicker nailed field goals of 44 and 45 yards along with all five extra points in No. 3 Georgia’s 41-17 win at then-No. 24 South Carolina. Blankenship’s 44-yarder sailed through the uprights as time expired in the first half, putting the Bulldogs ahead 20-10 and giving them enough momentum to pull away.

FRESHMAN

Bryce Thompson, DB, Tennessee

Thompson picked off a pass and broke up another in his first start for the Volunteers. He added four tackles, two for loss, in Tennessee’s 59-3 win against East Tennessee State.

OFFENSIVE LINE

Jervontius “Bunchy” Stallings, OG, Kentucky

Stallings played a key role in the Wildcats gashing Florida for 303 yards with nine knockdown blocks. He also played well in pass protection, not allowing a sack or quarterback pressure.

DEFENSIVE LINE

Montez Sweat, DE, Mississippi State

Sweat had a monster day against Kansas State, piling up three tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack. He moved into a tie for the conference lead in both sacks and tackles for loss as the Bulldogs gave up just 213 yards of offense.
