SEC basketball in the 2024-2025 season has been played at a high level, as the conference has a legitimate chance to get double digit teams in the NCAA tournament.

Every week, the conference names the standout basketball player from the week, and Johni Broome from Auburn and Tre Johnson from Texas both received recognition for their play last week.

Broome was named the SEC Player of the Week for his performance in the heavyweight matchup against Tennessee. He scored 16 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in his first game since Jan. 11 as he was dealing with an ankle injury. He came off the bench in the game against the Volunteers, and he ended up playing 33 minutes.

Tre Johnson and the Texas Longhorns had a big week, as they picked up 2 top-25 wins against Missouri and Texas A&M.

Because of his play, Johnson was named the Freshman of the Week in the SEC. He averaged 21.0 PPG, 3.0 APG and 2.5 RPG, while making 15-of-16 from the free throw line.

Conference play continues on Tuesday with a 3-game slate highlighted by No. 12 Kentucky at No. 8 Tennessee. Three more games are scheduled for Wednesday, including No. 4 Alabama at No. 14 Mississippi State.
