3 teams with NCAA Tournament implications

Tennessee

Tennessee is coming off of a big loss to Kentucky in the regular-season finale on Saturday, but the Vols can redeem themselves with a strong SEC Tournament run. Tennessee is looking to earn a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history, but will need to make a deep run in the conference tournament to make that happen. Arizona and North Carolina are UT’s top competitors for a No. 1 seed.

Mississippi State

The Bulldogs are entering this week firmly on the NCAA Tournament bubble. Late Saturday night, Mississippi State was classified as one of the last 4 teams to receive a bye in Joe Lunardi’s latest bracket projection. The Bulldogs have 4 Quad 1 wins are are ranked No. 42 in the NET as of Sunday morning. Mississippi State could solidify its place in the field of 64 with wins over LSU and Tennessee to start the SEC Tournament.

Kentucky

The Wildcats’ big win over Tennessee to close out the regular season ensured their double-bye in the SEC Tournament. Kentucky moved up to a No. 3 seed in Lunardi’s projection as a result of their road win in Knoxville, but could they move up even higher? Kentucky’s path to the SEC Championship could include 3 Quad 1 opportunities. If the Wildcats run the table, they’d have 8 Quad 1 victories — more than enough to earn consideration for a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
