The 2020 Southern versus FAMU game has been canceled as a safety precaution in response to COVID-19, according to the Tallahassee Democrat. The game was scheduled to be played on September 12, 2020, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

“From my understanding, Southern is not playing for the first couple of weeks. Our trip to Baton Rouge is canceled. Right now, we’re in conversations about replacing the game,” FAMU vice president Kortne Gosha said.

This matchup becomes the second game canceled for the upcoming season. On Wednesday, it was announced that the Southern Heritage Matchup between Jackson State and Tennessee State had also been canceled.

FAMU is now looking to add another HBCU opponent to the 2020 schedule and is even looking at home-and-home options.

Obviously, these are smaller college football programs. No Power 5 programs have given any inclination of canceling games.
