Good news out of Columbia on Wednesday as South Carolina has announced its plan to reopen campus in August.

According to the outline provided by South Carolina, the campus, in-person classes, university housing and events are currently scheduled to open back up this fall. The school also notes that all social distancing policies will continue to be practiced in classrooms, lecture halls, meeting rooms and sports venues, with “strong encouragement of proper social distancing” off-campus for all students.

In a detailed statement, which can be read in its entirety here, South Carolina President Bob Caslen has announced the plan to reopen the Columbia campus.

“After weeks of analysis and consideration, and in consultation with the Board of Trustees, I am pleased to report that the Columbia campus of the University of South Carolina will resume in-person instruction in mid-August.”

Caslen also notes that students will not be required to return to campus if they don’t feel comfortable doing so and that online classes will not be expanded and will continue to remain an option for students that choose not to return to campus.

“While we would like as many students, faculty and staff members as possible to return in person, doing so would not be mandatory, as we recognize that some would be uncomfortable coming back to campus in August. We respect each person’s decision to either return or delay their return, and we will expand our online course offerings to accommodate those who choose to remain away.”

This is just the latest in a long line of encouraging news when it comes to the upcoming college football season.
