The last few months must have felt like a whirlwind for Brian Bowen. The former Louisville player transferred to South Carolina following the FBI investigation into Rick Pitino’s Louisville program — the school has since dismissed Pitino following that investigation– only to be told he won’t be eligible to play next season by the NCAA.

Following that bad break, Bowen entered his name into the 2018 NBA Draft without hiring an agent. He pulled his name out of the draft before the deadline but due to the fact he can’t play in college next season, he’s still searching for his best option moving forward.

On Friday, Frank Martin met with the media in Columbia to offer his thoughts on the situation.

“Am I surprised? No. I’m realistic enough to know that when we took him this was going to be a possibility. Was I disappointed? Yes,” Martin said during the press conference.

Despite a hectic travel schedule working out for NBA scouts, not to mention the fact he never suited up for South Carolina in a regular season game, Martin told the story of how Bowen traveled back to Columbia simply to help peer recruit for the Gamecocks. Video of Martin’s press conference was shared by Mike Gillespie of ABC Columbia:

While Bowen didn’t get the opportunity to suit up for Martin, the South Carolina coach expressed no regret in adding the former Louisville player on Friday.
