Thanks to his brother and his mother, South Carolina senior quarterback Perry Orth will have an added advantage heading into this weekend’s matchup with Mississippi State.

Orth’s younger brother Evan, who suits up at quarterback for South Alabama, just finished a successful offseason of prep for the Bulldogs as the Jaguars went into Starkville and pulled off the biggest upset of the SEC’s opening weekend. With his brother coming off the big win, Perry was recently asked by reporters if he had reached out to his brother on how to attack MSU’s defense.

“I did, he was very excited about the win,” the South Carolina senior said. “I talked to him over the last few days (to gauge) schematically what (Mississippi State’s defense) looks like and who their personnel was and what they did and what they had success with. I’m going to call him on my way to class to discuss a play we are thinking about running.”

The family assistance didn’t stop there either, as the boys’ mother was also in Starkville last weekend and is doing her best to help Perry prep for the raucous Mississippi State atmosphere.

“It’s a good environment done there,” Orth said. “My mom was sending me videos of the cowbells and all the stuff that they do, so she’s trying to get me ready to go.”

Looking for any advantage he can to help his team get off to a stellar 2-0 start to conference play, Perry acknowledged he will continue to seek out his brother’s advice throughout the week.

“He’s helped out a bunch and he’s going to continue to help me out through the rest of the week to get ready to play.”

With a win, South Carolina would position itself as the early leader in the East clubhouse with six conference games remaining, four of which would be played in front of the home crowd in Columbia.
