Pete Lembo is one of the more colorful coaches in college football and the special teams guru and former South Carolina assistant opened up at his press conference in Buffalo on Tuesday about Shane Beamer.

Lembo praised Beamer, and became emotional, about how the South Carolina coach helped his career.

“I don’t think that I’m in front of you today if I didn’t first get the opportunity to go with Shane Beamer to the University of South Carolina,” Lembo said. “Shane’s a great person, and many of you know about Frank Beamer and Shane is definitely Frank’s son. They’re both great people, and I had an incredible experience the last 3 years in Columbia.”

Lembo called it a “very special time” in his 30-plus year career and that it “should be hard to leave a place.”

Lembo is known for his historical references in regular press conferences, and pure honesty when his special teams units are playing well. He’s referenced Clint Eastwood, World War II and Roger Dorn in one press conference, and his boxer shorts in another.
