South Carolina surprised some people by locking down a commitment from Debron Gatling on Early Signing Day.

Gatling was originally committed to Texas A&M before changing his plans and decommitting on Dec. 11. Gatling is a 3-star receiver out of Alpharetta (Ga.) Milton. The 247Sports Composite ranks him as the No. 73 player at the position for the 2024 class.

South Carolina has 2 verbal commits who remain unsigned in Gatling and 3-star corner Braydon Lee. Gatling would be joining 4-star wideout Mazeo Bennett if the receiver signs the letter of intent with the Gamecocks.

Adding some wideouts in the 2024 class is important for South Carolina, who lost one of its top players at the position in Juice Wells. Wells has since transferred to Ole Miss.

Gatling also has experience in running track and field for Milton. He had an 11.48 in the 100-yard dash last season.
