The rise of South Carolina’s program continues under Will Muschamp as the Gamecocks currently have a top 5 recruiting class for the 2019 recruiting cycle following the commitment of Tennessee prospect Joseph Anderson.

The 6-foot-4, 264-pound prospect from Murfreesboro is rated as the nation’s No. 208 overall prospect and the No. 15 strongside defensive end in the nation according to 247Sports Composite Rankings. Anderson currently holds scholarship offers from Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, LSU, Tennessee, Clemson, Michigan, Notre Dame and Ohio State among many others.

Following this news, the Gamecocks now have 13 commitments lined up for the 2019 recruiting cycle and have the nation’s No. 4 overall recruiting class per the 247Sports composite team recruiting rankings. Even better news for South Carolina? This recruiting class jumped Clemson in the recruiting rankings with Anderson’s pledge. Only Alabama and Texas A&M have higher ranked recruiting classes in the SEC at this point.

Anderson made the news official with the following tweet:

This commitment comes a week after the Gamecocks landed a pledge from five-star defensive end Zacch Pickens. SC also holds commitments from high school DE Rodricus Fitten, the No. 1 JUCO defensive tackle prospect in the nation (Jahkeem Green) and the No. 1 junior college strongside defensive end prospect in the nation (Devontae Davis). With these players now committed in the 2019 recruiting cycle, the Gamecocks have the makings of the best defensive line in the country come signing day.

It didn’t take long for Will Muschamp to confirm the news of Anderson’s pledge with his post-commitment “SpursUp!” tweet:
