South Carolina picked up a piece out of the transfer portal to start the week, and the player is familiar for the Gamecocks!

According to On3 Sports, Florida State edge Gilber Edmond has committed to Shane Beamer’s program. If that name sounds familiar, it is because Edmond originally began his career with the Gamecocks before leaving for the Seminoles last offseason.

He appeared to confirm the move on social media Monday morning:

Edmond was originally a 3-star recruit out of Florida in the 2020 recruiting class. He appeared in 21 games for South Carolina, including 10 starts during the 2022 season with career-high numbers of 39 tackles, 9 tackles for loss and 2 sacks.

While at Florida State, Edmond appeared in all 14 games but saw his production dip to 23 tackles, 1.5 TFL and a sack. Now, he returns to the program where he began his career for the 2024 season.

Edmond joins a South Carolina transfer class that was up to 17 players prior to his commitment. That group is ranked as the No. 7 transfer class in the country per 247 Sports as Beamer and his staff look to reload after a 5-7 season.
