Will Muschamp and South Carolina have worked quickly to identify Lance Thompson’s replacement on the Gamecocks staff.

If you missed the news, South Carolina and Thompson parted ways following the conclusion of the season. While a spot coaching the defensive line may have been open on Muschamp’s staff, that is expected to no longer be the case moving forward.

According to GamecockCentral.com and Tom Murphy of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, Arkansas defensive line coach John Scott Jr. is making the jump to the Columbia. Scott was one of the few assistants retained by Chad Morris in Fayetteville when he took over the Arkansas program just over a year ago.

Prior to landing the defensive line coaching role with the Razorbacks, Scott spent two seasons with the New York Jets. He also has coaching experience at Texas Tech, Georgia Southern, Missouri State, Norfolk State and Western Carolina. Scott is a graduate of Western Carolina and a South Carolina native.

His hire is expected to be officially announced by South Carolina on Tuesday.
