Many of the names that have circulated among fans and media to be the next South Carolina football coach are also listed by the sportsbook BetOnline.

The odds follow much of the reporting and conventional wisdom of the search, which has centered on Louisiana’s Billy Napier and Liberty’s Hugh Freeze. Though Oklahoma’s Shane Beamer and Coastal Carolina’s Jamey Chadwell are also in the mix.

An interesting name that hasn’t received a lot of media attention connected to the job is Cincinnati coach Luke Fickell, a former Ohio State offensive coordinator.

The majority of these coaches have offensive backgrounds, something Athletics Director Ray Tanner noted on Monday would be something he and President Bob Caslen look at in part because of the changing nature of college football.

The Gamecocks struggled on offense under coach Will Muschamp, who had three offensive coordinators in his nearly five seasons in Columbia. Tanner noted how high-scoring games have become the norm, and how 10-7 games are almost a distant memory across the sport.
