The Texas A&M Aggies are currently 7-1 and sitting at No. 5 in the College Football Playoff rankings. Their 1 loss was against No. 1 Alabama.

No, A&M won’t be in action this weekend after its game against Ole Miss was canceled due to COVID-19 issues in the Rebels’ program, but it remains to be seen if that will have any impact on the Aggies’ standing.

On Wednesday’s edition of “College Football Live,” ESPN analyst Todd McShay said he thinks the Aggies are the team most deserving of a Playoff berth if someone in the top 4 stumbles (via 247Sports):

“If Alabama is able to beat Florida, which the odds are highly stacked in that favor, then Texas A&M to me is the next team in,” McShay said. “I had them last week and let me be honest: I didn’t realize how good they are as a team, a complete football team until I saw them live. The offensive line is the best I’ve seen in the country. They don’t have great wide receivers but they have great running backs, they’ve got a good quarterback who’s playing really well except for one game this year in Kellen Mond when he struggled against LSU. But otherwise, he’s been in complete control.

“They’ve got a strong defense that keeps getting better, they play well on special teams. I’m not saying they’re one of the top 4 teams, but if one is gonna crash the party, I think they’re the most deserving and head-to-head they beat Florida.”

The head-to-head victory is something A&M fans keep pointing to as evidence that the Aggies should be ranked ahead of the Gators.

For now, they are ahead of Florida. But, can they get into the all-important top 4 in the next 2 weeks? We’ll find out soon enough.
