A common media take after Texas A&M and LSU’s seven-overtime new classic and the post-game fight that has dominated the headlines the past two days is that the annual SEC West clash is now a rivalry. True rivalries go beyond the gridiron and extend to the recruiting trail.

Coaching staffs without a game this week (in the SEC, all teams except Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina) are in recruiting mode from now until spring (or at least through National Signing Day). The LSU staff has decided to extend a scholarship offer to Texas A&M 2020 pledge Smart Chibuzo out of Missouri, Texas. The Tigers join Alabama, Florida and Georgia as the other SEC schools to offer the Aggie commit.

The 4-star offensive tackle is listed at 6-5, 319 pounds. He is rated the No. 32 offensive tackle, No. 37 recruit in Texas and No. 319 prospect overall nationally on the 247Sports Composite.

Texas A&M and LSU recruiting the same prospects is nothing new. But the battle on the recruiting trail may be more intense now that it’s a rivalry.
