Jake Johnson is following in his brother’s footsteps and opting for the transfer portal.

Jake is the brother of former Texas quarterback Max Johnson, who also decided to leave the program by way of the transfer portal. Max is now at North Carolina as Drake Maye is expected to go to the NFL Draft.

Here’s what Jake had to say about it:

“Thank you for the last 2 years at Texas A&M! It has been a defining chapter in my journey,” said Johnson. “I have made relationships and bonds that will last a lifetime. With much thought and prayer, I have made the decision to enter the transfer portal with three years left of eligibility left.”

The Texas A&M tight end played in all 12 games for the Aggies this season. He accounted for 235 yards receiving with 4 touchdowns.

Things didn’t end well for Texas A&M this season. Jimbo Fisher was fired after the win over Mississippi State.

Max suffered a hand injury in the loss to Ole Miss and wasn’t able to play in the final 3 games of the season. Jaylen Henderson ended up stepping in during Max’s absence and had a 2-1 record as starter.

It was time for a change at Texas A&M.

The program welcomed Mike Elko back as head coach after a 2-year stint as head coach at Duke. Elko was the defensive coordinator in College Station from 2018-2021.
