On Wednesday, Texas A&M announced that it had reached a contract extension with head football coach Jimbo Fisher. Under the deal, Fisher will remain under contract until 2031 and is set to make $9 million annually beginning Jan. 1, 2022. That number goes up a year later to $9.15 million and then by $100,000 each year for the life of the contract.

With the Aggies finishing 9-1 last year with their lone loss to Alabama, they’ll look to not only avenge their loss to the Crimson Tide in 2021 but insert themselves into the College Football Playoff picture.

Fisher’s initial comments were made as part of a statement released by the university, but he spoke further during his weekly radio show Wednesday evening.

“It’s a wonderful place,” he said, according to TexAgs. “I love it here and feel very comfortable here. Hopefully, we can keep doing great things here…I’m very humbled.

“I always thought there could be a vision for success and tremendous things here. The thing that has changed for me is that I know it… Everything I thought about this place, it’s true now.”

While Texas A&M fans will see Fisher on the sideline heading into the next decade, their hope is that he’ll be the man to bring the program’s first national championship since 1939.
