Mike Elko is adding a familiar face to his Texas A&M coaching staff. The program announced Saturday that Patrick Dougherty will be the Aggies’ special teams coordinator.

Dougherty follows Elko from Duke to Texas A&M. He was the Blue Devils’ tight ends coach and special teams coordinator the past two seasons on Elko’s staff.

Dougherty has been in coaching since 2008. He spent time at Northwestern and Ball State before landing at Duke ahead of the 2022 season.

Duke led the nation in punt return average (19.9 yards per return) in 2022. The Blue Devils’ Jaylen Stinson was second in the league in the ACC kickoff return yards with 380.

This season, Duke punter Porter Wilson was in the spotlight as a Ray Guy Award semifinalist and Phil Steele All-American. Wilson averaged 46.3 yards per punt, which ranked No. 9 nationally. The Duke punting unit had a net average of 43.5 yards, ranking second nationally.
