The Miami Dolphins knew QB Ryan Tannehill was unlikely to play in 2017 after suffering a knee injury during training camp. After all, that’s why they went out and signed former Vanderbilt QB Jay Cutler.

However, if they had any hope of him making a late-season return, that has been put to rest.

According to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald, Tannehill will have reconstructive surgery on his knee soon and will be placed on season-ending injured reserve:

After leading the Dolphins to a playoff berth last season, the former Texas A&M star will have to watch from the sidelines as Cutler tries to keep Miami competitive.

Hopefully Tannehill can make a full recovery and enter the 2018 season as the same dynamic player he once was.
