ESPN and SEC Network college football analyst Paul Finebaum has been quick to criticize Jimbo Fisher at times.

On a recent edition of ESPN’s “Get Up,” however, Finebaum offered a more objective look at the current state of affairs for Texas A&M.

Finebaum said this week’s home game with Miami is now incredibly important for the Aggies, and he also questioned whether or not Fisher’s success at Florida State might have been fool’s gold.

“He is in must-win mode now,” said Finebaum of Fisher on the show via On3.com. “He’s not getting fired. The reason? It would cost $90 million to get rid of him right now. But he is in trouble in terms of perception. He’s got a worse record than the person they fired to make room for him, Kevin Sumlin.

“His record at A&M outside of the COVID year is actually pretty mediocre, and a lot of people are beginning to wonder if Florida State wasn’t a fluke. This is a critical game this week. After that, it actually gets more difficult, with Arkansas and Alabama and Mississippi State and everyone else in the SEC.”

The No. 24 Aggies and No. 13 Hurricanes meet in College Station on Saturday. The game is set for 9 p.m. (ET) and will be televised by ESPN.
