Hide the recruits, Tennessee is coming.

That seems to be the feeling some programs around the South may be feeling according to 247Sports’ Director of Scouting Barton Simmons. Simmons was a recent guest on WJOX 94.5 FM program The Opening Drive to discuss the current recruiting trends at Alabama and Auburn but momentarily steered the conversation toward Tennessee when discussing one prospect.

Current Auburn four-star commit Coynis Miller was one of the few Tiger pledges that did not sign with the school during the early signing period. The 2018 Under Armour All-American is rated as the No. 13 defensive tackle in the nation by 247Sports and has been committed to Auburn since October.

Despite that commitment, Coynis is still actively being recruited by multiple programs leading up to National Signing Day. Here’s what Simmons had to say about Miller’s recruitment with signing day just weeks away.

“Coynis Miller, he has official visits set up. I would be less worried about his official visit to Oregon (Jan. 19) and maybe a little bit more concerned about his visit to Tennessee (Jan. 26) the following weekend. He also has a Florida (Feb. 2) visit set up,” Simmons said on the show.

“You guys have seen it up close, how effective Jeremy Pruitt is as a recruiter. (Tennessee) is a school that’s really hot right now, and I’d be a little unsettled if any of my school’s prospects were heading to Knoxville right now because you have a new staff. A lot of energy, a lot of optimism, I would keep an eye on that.

“I think (Auburn) has a good chance to hold onto him but that’s one to watch down the stretch.”

Tennessee is desperate for help on the line of scrimmage and is likely selling that fact on Miller. How well his visits go could determine where he ultimately signs and it appears those in the recruiting industry have a ton of faith in Tennessee’s new coach to seal the deal leading up to signing day.
