Tennessee football lost a commitment from 4-star wide receiver JJ Harrell Monday evening. He had been committed to Tennessee since February.

That’s a big loss for Tennessee, but it might be for a reason. The Vols are thought to be heavily in the mix for 5-star WR Mike Matthews, as well as Chattanooga native Amari Jefferson.

Harrell has been trending to Ole Miss for a few days now, too. The 6-footer is the No. 1 WR out of the state of Mississippi in the Class of 2024 and is also a major Mississippi State target.

He released the following announcement on his personal Twitter page Monday:

Tennessee is now without a WR commit in the Class of 2024, though the Vols still hold a top 10 ranking for their class.

Harrell was one of Tennessee’s highest-rated prospects, too. He is considered to be the No. 143 overall prospect in the nation, as well as the No. 20 WR in the cycle.
