Cooper Mays has gotten a win over all of Tennessee’s rivals during his time with the Vols besides one.

The senior playing for his home state is still looking for a win over Georgia — an opponent the Vols have not defeated since 2016. Getting a win over Georgia would mean a lot to Mays, whose brother played at Georgia before transferring to Tennessee.

For Mays and Tennessee, dropping the Bulldogs isn’t just a win over a rival, it’s a step forward for a team looking to get return to its glory days.

“It’s a big time game for us on both sides,” Mays said. “Tennessee is working to put our program back on top and this is one of our big stepping stones, getting a win over them. I’ve got a win over all the Big 3 other than Georgia so, trying to put that together.”

The Vols were able to beat rivals Florida and Alabama in Year 2 of the Josh Heupel era, but they are still looking for a coveted win over Georgia. They’ll have a chance to do it at home this weekend, but it won’t be easy. Georgia has seemed to hit its stride, stomping Ole Miss last week. The Bulldogs are looking for another win over Tennessee this week.

The game between the Vols and the Bulldogs kicks off at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday.
