Tennessee’s receiver room has lost some depth this week as DeAngelo Gibbs will not play this season, according to head coach Jeremy Pruitt.

Pruitt announced the news during his Friday media availability.

According to the Tennessee coach, Gibbs has elected to focus on his academics this fall. It should be noted that Pruitt noted that Gibbs remains a member of the team.

“DeAngelo has elected not to play this fall,” Pruitt said. “He is going to focus on his academics and, he’s still with our team. He continues to do a really good job academically but he’s going to set this fall out.”

Gibbs sat out the 2019 season due to NCAA transfer rules after transferring to Tennessee from Georgia.

The former touted recruit from Loganville, Ga., played defensive back at Georgia and was expected to transition to receiver for Tennessee. Gibbs played both sides of the ball in high school.
