This week is an important audition for former Tennessee cornerback Cameron Sutton. The 2016 Preseason All-American returned to Knoxville for one last season to improve his NFL stock but instead suffered a broken bone in his foot during the third game of the season.

Now fully healed, Sutton is eager to prove himself as a high-end NFL prospect by competing against some of the best prospects the college game has to offer in the 2017 Senior Bowl. Not only is he playing his traditional cornerback role, but Sutton is also playing anywhere and everywhere he is asked to do so this week in practice.

“Playing safety, playing inside nickel and I’m also playing outside,” Sutton said in the video above. “I’m just a versatile player. I’m looking to showcase that throughout the course of the week and just having fun and just competing.”

So far, so good for Sutton, who has earned top marks for his performance the last two days of practice:

If Sutton continues to perform as well as he has throughout his career at Tennessee and lives up to his All-American performances of the past, NFL teams are likely to look past his one and only significant injury during his four seasons on Rocky Top.

But it’s not just his performance that’s likely to draw praise from NFL scouts, it’s his drive and competitive nature. Instead of sitting out the final few games of Tennessee’s season, Sutton did everything he could possibly do to return to the field before his senior season ended.

Less than two months removed from a broken bone in his foot, Sutton hit the field for the Vols against Kentucky and played well in the remaining four games. Apparently, Sutton didn’t think twice about his opportunity to compete in the Senior Bowl, citing his ‘love of the game’ for the main reason he came out, instead of resting as some high-profile players often chose to do.

While his Tennessee teammates defensive end Derek Barnett and running back Alvin Kamara have been generating buzz as potential first-round picks in the upcoming NFL draft, don’t be surprised to see Sutton elevated to that same status in the weeks to come following some impressive performances at the Combine and pre-draft processes.
