Big news from the NFL on Thursday as Jason Witten is leaving the television booth for the football field.

Witten served as the lead analyst for Monday Night Football last season, his first season away from the football field, but was pretty much mocked from his debut all the way until the final game he helped call for the NFL. He even made a mistake 10 seconds into his analysis of the College Football Playoff National Championship Game between Alabama and Clemson.

Those gaffes are now well behind Witten as the longtime Cowboy is returning to Dallas for his 16th season with the team. The Cowboys announced the news on Thursday.

“The fire inside of me to compete and play this game is just burning too strong,” Witten said in a statement. “This team has a great group of rising young stars, and I want to help them make a run at a championship. This was completely my decision, and I am very comfortable with it. I’m looking forward to getting back in the dirt.”

During his 15-year career in Dallas, Witten has made 15 Pro Bowls for the Cowboys following his collegiate career at Tennessee. Witten is currently fourth all-time in NFL receptions with 1,152 during his career.
