One Tennessee defensive back’s return was big news on Wednesday, but another defender is still waiting for the green light.

Returning starting Star Baylen Buchanan has been sidelined for Tennessee so far in the 2019 season. At the start of fall camp in August, Volunteers coach Jeremy Pruitt told reporters that Buchanan was dealing with a narrowing of the spine. In August, Pruitt described Buchanan as being held out while UT continued to gather information from specialists. The second-year coach entertained the idea that Buchanan could use his redshirt season for 2019.

At a Wednesday press conference, Pruitt was asked for the latest on Buchanan.

“He does everything in practice, but he doesn’t hit,” Pruitt told reporters when asked about Buchanan, adding that the veteran defensive back is still dealing with the spinal issue.

The fact that Buchanan is non-contact in practice implies he won’t be suiting up on Saturday any time soon, but continuing to practice would seem to indicate that he hasn’t been shut down for 2019.
