Joe Milton has a cannon for a right arm. No one doubts his ability to fling a football farther than just about every other human on this planet.

The question for Milton and the Tennessee Volunteers, though, is if he can develop into a talented all-around quarterback or not.

As the Vols prepare for their Week 1 game against Virginia in Nashville on Saturday, Milton joined ESPN’s College GameDay for an interview. In addition to revealing he has thrown a football 90 yards this offseason, he also discussed where he’s grown this offseason:

“I feel great,” he said. “I’m not complacent. I learn something new every day. That’s the goal in my everyday life, on and off the field. I’ve been given the opportunity to grow every day with my brothers and having my coaches right there beside me, pushing me, and having a great mindset on my shoulders and just keeping going. Just having these guys with me has been the most amazing part about it.”

Can Milton start his 2023 campaign on a strong note? He’s a darkhorse Heisman Trophy candidate if he and the Vols live up to (or exceed) expectations. We’ll get our first look at the Joe Milton era on Saturday.

Tennessee and Virginia kick off at 12 p.m. ET and the game can be seen on ESPN.
