Josh Heupel’s turn behind the podium will come at SEC Media Days. But he’s already getting a head start on letting the country know how dangerous his WR corps will be in 2023.

On Tuesday evening, Heupel joined SEC Network to talk about incoming Oregon transfer Dont’e Thornton and just how much he brings to the table out of the Pac-12.

In short, a lot. Heupel praised Thornton’s work ethic and impressive skills on the field, especially his catch radius and speed, with the ability to play both outside the numbers and in the slot.

Check out Heupel’s comments on Thornton below:

Thornton totaled 17 receptions for 366 yards and 1 touchdown last season with the Ducks. He had 2 touchdown receptions the year prior on 9 receptions.

Tennessee might still have a top 3 WR room in the SEC despite losing Biletnikoff recipient Jalin Hyatt and NFL-caliber Cedric Tillman from last year’s juggernaut offense.

Bru McCoy is back and a stout option at WR1, flanked by potential breakout candidate Squirrel White, Ramel Keyton and of course Thornton. There’s plenty of size and speed to go around in Knoxville.
