Kara Lawson is about to make history as the former Lady Vol is expected to join the Boston Celtics coaching staff.

During her playing career under legendary coach Pat Summit, Lawson helped Tennessee reach three Final Fours before moving on to a 12-year career in the WNBA. Lawson also earned a gold medal playing for the U.S. Olympic team in 2008.

Following the end of her playing career, she has served as an analyst for ESPN and a TV commentator for the Washington Wizards.

News of Lawson’s job to Boston was first reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Following this news, the NBA is now set to have four women coaching next season as Lawson would join San Antonio’s Becky Hammon, Dallas’ Jenny Boucek and Cleveland’s Lindsay Gottlieb on an NBA bench next season.

Lawson was rumored to be a candidate for the Lady Vols position that ultimately went to Kellie Harper this offseason.
