On Monday, Tennessee coach Butch Jones went on an unusual anti-media rant, during which the term “fake news” was used. You can watch the full rant here.

Naturally, ESPN host Paul Finebaum — a media member — wasn’t thrilled with Jones’s comments.

On Tuesday, Finebaum blasted Jones for focusing on something so petty and ridiculous when his job is on the line if he doesn’t start winning more football games (via 247Sports):

“This is a coach who [has] done a pretty miserable job this year,” Finebaum said. “They barely beat UMass Saturday. The crowd by the end of the game was non-existent and the atmosphere was beyond belief. For Butch Jones to lecture the media and to use the phrase fake news, it was utterly unexplainable.

“It’s a terrible look for a football coach. Go out there and defend your team, but don’t give this state of the union address about the media when your job’s on the line.”

Indeed, it has been speculated that Jones could lose his job if the Vols fall to No. 7 Georgia at home on Saturday afternoon.

Perhaps Jones should be worried more about that game and less about what the media writes.
