On Sunday, the Tennessee Volunteers tried to hire Ohio State DC Greg Schiano, only to be met with incredible social media and fan backlash.

Most of the backlash was centered on the fact that Schiano was briefly an assistant at Penn State while child abuser Jerry Sandusky was there. There were a few rumors that Schiano knew what was going on but didn’t say anything.

On Monday, however, Penn State trustee Anthony Lubrano issued a strong statement defending Schiano, saying he’s pored through the data and firmly believes Schiano had no knowledge of what was going on:

Lubrano called out the Vols for giving in to social media pressure and added that they missed a chance to hire a great coach for their university.

However, what’s done is done, and now the Vols are moving on, trying to find a hire that won’t draw such vitriol from the fan base.

Who ends up getting the job remains to be seen, but it won’t be Schiano, who will carry on as Ohio State’s defensive coordinator for the time being.
