Reports: N.C. State coach Dave Doeren to 'formally turn down' Tennessee job
It appears Tennessee will keep looking as it is being reported that N.C. State head coach Dave Doeren is expected to turn down the Volunteers job.
It was reported on Wednesday that Tennessee was looking into Doeren as a candidate after the Greg Schiano deal fell through Sunday. Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy also reportedly turned down a big offer from the Vols on Tuesday and stayed with the Cowboys.
As of Thursday afternoon, Doeren is reportedly turning down the job at Tennessee and will stay with the Wolfpack. He has a 33-30 overall record at N.C. State since 2013 but has finished above .500 every season since going 3-9 his first year there.
It will be interesting to see where the Vols turn next as the search for a new head coach rolls on.
#SEC staff tells me Doeren is expected formally turn down UT. Agent also informs me “Don’t think he wants in that.” Watch Pruitt, Miles, perhaps Sumlin, Leach. Maybe they’ll finally call Tee or Lane?
