Tennessee softball left no doubt about its rule over the SEC this season, capturing the SEC Tournament title Saturday afternoon with a 3-1 win over South Carolina. That win gives the Lady Vols a sweep of the SEC championships after previously clinching the regular-season title.

In Saturday’s title game, the No. 10 seeded Gamecocks were chasing more history. South Carolina was already the first 10-seed or lower to play for the championship and struck for a quick run in the top of the 1st inning.

That early lead evaporated quickly with Rylie West delivering an RBI single for Tennessee in the bottom of the 1st. Then, in the bottom of the 3rd, Jamison Brockenbrough came through with a 2-run single for the Vols to give Tennessee a 3-1 lead.

Those runs would be all the Vols needed with Payton Gottshall picking up the win with 5 strong innings of 1-run ball. Ashley Rogers would finish the deal and record a save while allowing just 1 hit over 2 shutout innings with 3 strikeouts.

Now, the No. 4 ranked Lady Vols will await to find out their draw for the NCAA Tournament. Selection Sunday is tomorrow, May 14 with regional action scheduled for Friday, May 19 through Sunday, May 21.
