The report of a deal being in the works for Tennessee to hire Greg Schiano as head football coach has not been well received by fans in Knoxville.

The report surfaced Sunday afternoon that the Volunteers were finalizing a deal to hire Schiano, but nothing official has been announced yet.

Since that time, a number of people have weighed in with a negative reaction to the report. The Rock on Tennessee’s campus was painted with a strong statement in response to the report, and White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders blasted the university for the potential decision.

Fans in Knoxville have even gathered together in order to protest Schiano with one video showing a number of people chanting “Fire (UT AD John) Currie.” Donovan Long shared video of the gathering to Twitter:

It remains to be seen if a deal will be finalized.
