Arch Manning and Quinn Ewers are both Heisman Trophy contenders as of Week 3.

Ewers entered the week as the betting favorite to win the honor, but an apparent injury has placed significant questions on the future of the quarterback position in Austin.

After Ewers exited the game, Manning entered and immediately scored a pair of touchdowns — 1 passing and 1 rushing. The score on the ground was a big one that went for 67 yards and gave the Longhorns a 28-7 lead over UTSA.

Somewhere in the process of Ewers exiting and Manning lighting up the score board, ESPN BET adjusted its Heisman Trophy odds. Manning went from +15000 to +2200 to earn the award in a matter of minutes.

Manning certainly has the profile to get himself into the Heisman Trophy race despite not starting any of Texas’ first 3 games to begin the year. Manning is a former 5-star prospect and is the nephew of NFL legends Peyton and Eli Manning.

As of this writing, Miami quarterback Cam Ward is the betting favorite to win the Heisman Trophy at +550. Ewers was the betting favorite at most sportsbooks prior to his injury, but ESPN BET now has his odds priced at +1500.

If Ewers or Manning were to win the Heisman in 2024, they would become just the third player in Texas football history to do so. Texas’ previous winners are Earl Campbell and Ricky Williams.

Texas will close out nonconference play next week against Louisiana Monroe before facing Mississippi State in its first-ever SEC game in Week 5.
