On Saturday evening, Tennessee State LB Christion Abercrombie took a hit to the head and left the game.

However, as he was making his way with trainers to the locker room, he collapsed and had to be rushed to Vanderbilt Medical Center. From there, he had an emergency surgery and is currently in very critical condition.

On Sunday morning, coach Rod Reed said on his weekly radio program that there was nothing wrong with the play that Abercrombie was injured on — it was just unfortunate (via Tennessean.com):

“It was just a football play,” Reed said Sunday morning on his coaches radio show on WNSR 560-AM/95.9-FM. “He was taking on a block and it wasn’t anything malicious or dirty or anything like that. Just an unfortunate situation.”

Abercrombie was breathing, but unresponsive, after surgery, though there were some “slightly positive” signs Sunday morning.

He remains in “very critical” condition, though.
