The final installment of our SEC Heisman Watch features three offensive players who have shined during the second half of the season:

SIZZLING

  • Amari Cooper, WR, Alabama: So much for playing on a bruised knee. College football’s top receiver showed no ill effects from a hit suffered during last week’s win over Western Carolina on Saturday in the Iron Bowl, erupting for 224 yards and three touchdowns on 13 catches in the showdown with Auburn. The Tigers chose to play Cooper man-to-man and the decision — along with defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson — proved fatal. Cooper’s set Alabama single-season catches for receptions (103) and yards (1,573) this season. Cooper has one final shot to sway Marcus Mariota’s voters in his direction Saturday afternoon in Atlanta against Mizzou for the SEC Championship.

WARM

  • Dak Prescott, QB, Mississippi State: Asked to do too much down the stretch over the Bulldogs’ final three games, two losses have soured Prescott’s Heisman campaign along with Mississippi State’s banner season. Prescott’s last 100-yard game on the ground came against Auburn on Oct. 11 and a three-interception outing against Alabama sticks out as this season’s lowpoint. Prescott was responsible for an SEC-high 38 touchdowns in 12 starts.
  • Nick Chubb, RB, Georgia: A lost fumble inside the 5 damaged the Bulldogs’ chances against rival Georgia Tech, but Chubb still managed to finish with his seventh consecutive 100-yard game thanks to a strong first quarter. Chubb’s averaging a league-best 6.9 yards per carry this season and is second overall in rushing with 1,281 yards despite 91 fewer carries than leader Cameron Artis-Payne (1,482).
