Week 3 SEC attendance figures (80,104 average)
So much for the intimidation factor.
Equipped with the nation’s highest-scoring offense, Ole Miss went into Bryant-Denny Stadium in front of nearly 102,000 fans and finished with 43 points to post one of the biggest wins in program history over the second-ranked Crimson Tide.
The Rebels’ victory in a hostile environment catapulted Hugh Freeze’s team 12 spots to No. 3 in the latest AP Top 25 Poll.
In Death Valley, Leonard Fournette sent 102,321 fans home happy as LSU dominated Auburn during its home opener. The SEC’s loudest crowd had plenty to scream about early as Fournette scampered 71 yards on the first play from scrimmage to initiate the rout.
“The crowd was initially on fire,” Les Miles said.
The SEC’s 80,104 average attendance in Week 3 was a season-best, eclipsing last week’s average of 72,877 fans per game. Texas A&M and Tennessee also welcomed six-figure crowds at its respective home games and Georgia’s sellout of 92,746 was able to start filing out midway through the third quarter.
Kentucky welcomed more than 63,000 to new Commonwealth Stadium for its evening showdown against Florida, but the Wildcats still lost for the 29th consecutive time to their Eastern Division rivals.
