We are getting really close to the bowl games.

For some SEC squads there is a ton to play for. For others, they will be starting fresh next season so their bowl performance doesn’t carry as much weight.

Here are the SEC teams ranked by bowl motivation.

1. Alabama: The Crimson Tide have a chance for their fourth national title since 2009. But it would be Alabama’s first under the new College Football Playoff format. Nick Saban wants to be the best, it’s evident each and every year. Alabama came up short last year and won’t be satisfied unless it brings home the trophy at the end of the season. It all begins with the Cotton Bowl against Michigan State.

2. Ole Miss: Ole Miss, who have been on the cusp of joining the upper tier in the SEC, would love to redeem themselves after last year’s embarrassing loss to Texas Christian in the Peach Bowl. The Rebels had a convincing win over Alabama early and only lost to Florida, Arkansas and Memphis. They have a chance to make a major statement in the Sugar Bowl against an Oklahoma State team ranked in the top-four for several weeks. Hugh Freeze looks like he has Ole Miss turning the corner and a victory will only solidify that.

3. Florida: The Gators have to find some kind of momentum before heading into the offseason. They weren’t very competitive in their last two games of the year, falling to Florida State and Alabama. Sure, it’s obvious that Florida will undergo offensive changes in the offseason but the Gators have a chance to keep building with a win over Michigan in the Citrus Bowl. Both of these teams rely heavily on defense, so it should be a good matchup.

4. Tennessee: The Vols are headed in the right direction and are a realistic pick to claim the SEC East in 2016. All of their losses this year were to quality opponents (Oklahoma, Florida, Arkansas and Alabama.) Northwestern’s only two losses came to Michigan and Iowa. If Joshua Dobbs can put together a solid performance and help lead the Vols to a win, Tennessee will continue in the right direction.

5. Mississippi State: The Bulldogs will be without Dak Prescott, but it looks like they have a solid replacement in Nick Fitzgerald. The Bulldogs will be playing N.C. State in the Belk Bowl. A win should keep them high in next year’s SEC West conversation.

6. Auburn: This is actually a pretty big game for Auburn.  The Tigers fell short of expectations but they are playing a good Memphis team, though coach Justin Fuente left for Virginia Tech. If Auburn wins, it heads into the offseason on a happy note. If the Tigers lose, the speculation about Gus Malzahn’s job security will only get worse.

7. Arkansas: Brandon Allen was a huge part of the Razorbacks success this year. And he won’t be back in 2016. Arkansas caught a lot of people off guard this season and the Hogs don’t have a sexy bowl matchup. They should beat Kansas State in the Liberty Bowl, but that may not change anything heading into 2016.

8. Texas A&M: There has been a lot of turmoil for Kevin Sumlin in College Station over the last week. Kyle Allen is transferring and now there are reports that Kyler Murray may be leaving as well. A win over a mediocre Louisville team in the Music City Bowl may not do much for the Aggies.

9. LSU: It’s clear that LSU is going to make major changes in the offseason, especially on offense. The Tigers came into the year with much bigger aspirations than playing Texas Tech in the Texas Bowl. A win would be nice for Les Miles, but this game doesn’t carry a ton of weight.

10: Georgia: The Bulldogs will undergo major changes in 2016 under Kirby Smart. They will be playing against Penn State with a makeshift coaching staff. A win wouldn’t carry much weight.
