Joe Milton is coming off the board, hearing his name called on Day 3 of the NFL Draft!

On Saturday, the New England Patriots decided to grab Milton with a 6th-round pick. Milton comes off the board as the 193rd overall pick and the 9th quarterback to hear his name called in the draft.

Overall, 6 QBs were selected in Thursday’s 1st-round picks, but Milton is just the 3rd QB drafted since the 1st round ended. South Carolina’s Spencer Rattler and Florida State’s Jordan Travis were selected during Saturday’s 5th round.

The Patriots began their draft by picking a different quarterback, grabbing UNC’s Drake May with the No. 3 overall pick Thursday night. Maye is undoubtedly the QB1 of the future in New England, but Milton maintains elite arm talent with a chance to find a spot on the depth chart as a potential backup to Maye.

After beginning his career with 3 seasons at Michigan, Milton transferred to Tennessee for 3 seasons with the Vols. He did show some signs of development under Josh Heupel and delivered 27 total touchdowns to 5 interceptions in the 2023 season.

The selection of Milton gives Tennessee QBs selected in back-to-back drafts following Hendon Hooker’s selection in the 3rd round a year ago. The last time that happened came in 1994-95 when Heath Shuler and Jerry Colquitt were taken in consecutive drafts.
