We’re inside of 24 hours from the most important day of the offseason in the SEC as touted high school seniors can begin signing binding letters of intent on Wednesday. National Signing Day has become a February spectacle we’re all interested in as football fiends, one that breeds anticipation at every major program in the country. Here’s a look at where the Auburn Tigers stand heading into Wednesday.

RELATEDAnnouncement times for the SEC’s top uncommitted prospects

After struggling through a 2015 season where they only won two SEC games, this is a huge recruiting year for the Auburn Tigers. They really need a big class.

So far so good for the Tigers, who are ranked No. 13 nationally as of Tuesday morning, good enough for sixth in the SEC. Auburn already has six four-star recruits on campus as early enrollees and that group helps set the stage for what should be a big finish in recruiting heading into Wednesday, where the Tigers are still actively involved with several major prospects.

Auburn trails SEC West foes Alabama, LSU and Ole Miss currently in the recruiting rankings, but there’s still a long way to go through Wednesday. Several big names still undecided could turn the tide in the Tigers direction, several of whom seem to be leaning in Auburn’s direction.

Here’s what we know about Auburn’s class so far:

AUBURN 2016 RECRUITING CLASS

National rank: 13
SEC rank: 6
Commitments: 16
Commitments by rating: 9 four-stars, 7 three-stars

Top incoming offensive players: QBs Woody Barrett and John Franklin might not be the two best players heading to The Plains, but they’re certainly going to be the most interesting to watch. After both Jeremy Johnson and Sean White struggled at QB for the Tigers last year, coach Gus Malzahn is promising the race for the starting QB spot is going to be wide open in the spring. Barrett and Franklin are both dangerous athletes and the kind of quarterback that Malzahn likes to have at the helm of his offense. It’s one of the most intriguing position battles in the SEC.

Top incoming defensive players: Marlon Davidson is expected to have an immediate impact on the Auburn defense. He’s already on campus and is looking forward to getting after it in the spring. The Tigers struggled defensively a year ago and need the reinforcements.

Primary remaining target: The crystal ball on Derrick Brown has been a hard one to follow, but the top-10 target seems to be trending Auburn’s way these days. It’s been a battle to shake the Georgia native away from Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs, but it seems to be a coin flip now heading into signing day. Brown would be a huge get for the Tigers, and would likely vault their class into the top 10.

Auburn’s spot in the recruiting rankings could change drastically before Wednesday before signing day is over. The Tigers are still seriously in the hunt for several star players. High on the radar is Tampa, Fla., wide receiver Nate Craig-Myers, who’s said to have narrowed his list to Auburn and North Carolina. Defensive tackle Derrick Brown (Buford, Ga.) is also being heavily pursued by the Tigers. Auburn seems to have a shot at Alabama native Ben Davis, who visited over the weekend. Rashan Gary (Paramus, N.J.), the top defensive recruit in the country, just took Auburn off his list and is choosing between Clemson and Michigan.
