With Dak Prescott moved on to the professional ranks, there’s a massive pair of shoes to fill at the starting quarterback position for the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

The three candidates for the job include Nick Fitzgerald, Damian Williams, and Nick Tiano. Fitzgerald is the only quarterback with any experience from last year on the roster — throwing for 235 yards and three touchdowns in limited time behind Prescott.

Williams — a 6-foot-1, 229-pound Louisiana native — redshirted in 2015. However, he saw time in six games as both a true freshman and as a sophomore. Collectively, he’s the most seasoned of the three signal-caller.

Tiano is a redshirt freshman from the Chattanooga area. He originally chose Mississippi State over an offer from Miami.

On Wednesday, head coach Dan Mullen announced that a starting quarterback will be named early next week. He also plans on playing more than one player at the position.

“It’s sorting itself out. To this day, no one has jumped up and separated himself to be the guy. I have a good idea where I’m at and who’s going to be the starter…but I’m going to play more than one in the first game. I can guarantee you that.”

Mississippi State opens the 2016 season at home against South Alabama.
